Universities Are Dead … Long Live Universities

The recent Thiel fellowships, rewarding a group of 20 undergraduates to drop out of college and pursue their entrepreneurial ideas, has spurred a lot of debate about whether university education really provides any value and if university are on their way out. Unusually the debate begins with someone arguing that they only used 5% of what the learned in college, that entrepreneurs learn everything by just doing it, and that there are so many online resources today that you can just teach yourself whatever you actually need to know.
